Description

After struggling for playing time with the Chicago White Sox in the late-1950s, catcher Earl Battey was traded to the Washington Senators. A full-time regular for the first time in his career, Battey had a breakout season in 1960, finishing 8th in the AL MVP voting, and winning his first of three consecutive Gold Glove awards. In 1961, the Senators rebranded as the Minnesota Twins, and Battey upped his game even more, batting .302 during that campaign. He solidified his reputation as one of the premier backstops of his day, and was selected as an All-Star in four of his five next seasons.

From the peak of his career, comes this signed 1961-1963 game-used bat. This Louisville Slugger is identified on the knob as a "K55" model, and it features a facsimile autograph on the barrel. Battey has signed ("8-9") on the barrel, between the factory label and the burned in facsimile signature. Accompanying is a full photo LOA from PSA/DNA, describing this bat as authentic, and used by Battey during the 1961-1963 labeling period. Condition is described as un-cracked with slight checking on the back, and moderate to heavy use, resulting in a grade of PSA/DNA GU 8. Auction LOA from JSA for the autograph.
