Description



Historians dive deep into the game of baseball, with this 1868-2010 ephemera and memorabilia collection. Spanning nearly a century and a half, this fascinating selection provides interesting glimpses of our national pastime.

Publications:


1868 Bound edition of Oliver's Optics Magazine "Boys and Girls" with early baseball articles, including a pick-up game in Paris between American tourists, pioneering player Tom Pratt, various Cincinnati-based teams, and "The American Championship" between the Brooklyn Atlantics and the Mutual Base Ball Club of New York. Also featured are several full-page plates, with Rip Van Winkle and others. The front cover of this ancient hardcover volume is detached but present, however several pages are absent from the front, otherwise shows age-appropriate wear.


1890 Reach Score Book (GD) with more than a dozen 1920s games scored, including two 1928 World Games between the Yankees and the Cardinals, with Ruth, Gehrig, Frisch, Hafey and Bottomley.


1924 Ford/Lincoln Motor Company "Sports" guide (VG-EX) with 1923 World Champion Yankees, Ivy League football scores, and Bill Tilden tennis results. 


5/17/41 "Connie Mack Day" Philadelphia A's program from Shibe Park (FR), scored for a game between the A's and the Tigers with Gehringer. 


1950 "My 66 Years in the Big Leagues" by Connie Mack softcover publication (EX). 


1952 Barnes and Company "Pictorial History of American Sports" (GD-VG) with numerous photos, including Ruth, Mack, Thorpe, and Rockne. 


1969 MacMillen "The Baseball Encyclopedia" hardcover book is (VG) due to wear on the spine graphics, otherwise very solid and clean. Comes with a well-worn, but still serviceable slipcase and a cover letter with a Bowie Kuhn facsimile signature. 


1990 "Dick Perez Baseball Masterpieces" program from an exhibition at the Bianco Gallery in Lahaska, Pa. (NM-MY) signed by Perez 3X average ("8-9"): on the front cover, on an interior photo of himself, and on a page with Richie Ashburn. Comes with original envelope. 


2010 Brilliant Graphics "The Immortals: The Art Collection of Baseball's Best" hardcover volume by Dick Perez (NM) housed in its original box, and signed ("9-10") by the author on the front flyleaf page, with the date inscription "5/30/2012".


(4) 2010 Philadelphia Inquirer Sports sections average (EX-MT to NM) with: 10/10 NLDS Game 2; 10/10 commemorating Halladay's NLDS no-hitter; 10/11 "Hamels and History" NLDS clincher; and 10/17 NLCS Game 1 with Halladay no-hitter insert poster.

1960 Pittsburgh Pirates World Champions charm (EX) made by Jostens and fashioned after the 1960 Pirates World Series press pin. 


1969 Mickey Mantle endorsed "Easy Talk" intercom two-piece set in sealed original package (MIP), package shows moderate wear.

Rico Brogna signed ("9-10") souvenir photo card. 


Also present are a scrapbook and a selection of newspaper and magazine clippings, with Ted Williams, Satchel Paige, Richie Ashburn, and many others.
