Former Orioles manager Cal Ripken Sr. died shortly before the 1999 season began, and his uniform number "7" is poignantly memorialized on the sleeve of 1999 manager Ray Miller's jersey here. The left front tail carries Russell Athletic's size-52 tagging and a "1999" label.

Authenticator Phil Wood's LOA notes, "The left sleeve of this shirt shows a ghost of the #7 applique from the other sleeve. Not sure if this was simply a mistake from when the shirt was originally lettered...The jersey shows standard wear for a non-player, with minimal pilling on the front of the shirt, most noticeable inside the first 'O' in Orioles. There are two tiny non-distracting reddish stains on the front of the jersey that could conceivably be removed with laundering."

Wood's bio of Miller reads in part, "Maryland native Ray Miller (1945-2021) enjoyed a long career in baseball, despite never playing an inning in the major leagues. Signed originally by the Giants in 1962, he spent 10 seasons as a righthanded pitcher in the minor league systems of San Francisco, Cleveland Baltimore...Miller wanted to manage, and after getting some off-season experience in the Puerto Rican and Venezuelan winter leagues, he replaced Billy Gardner as Minnesota Twins' manager on June 21, 1985...He returned to Baltimore in 1998 as manager, replacing Davey Johnson."
