Description

War raged around the world during the first half of the 1940s. Thankfully, the Allies stopped the Axis powers, and the troops came marching home. With life returning to normal, Americans were sorely in need of diversions from the lingering effects of WWII. One attempt to provide the home front with thrilling spectacles, came about when the All-American Football Conference challenged the NFL for fan attention. The AAFC fielded a pretty solid brand of football from 1946-1949, before running out of steam, and there's no debate over which squad was the upstart league's best. That honor goes to the Cleveland Browns, who won championships in all four of the AAFC's seasons.

Recall this ancient gridiron juggernaut, with this c.1946-1949 Cleveland Browns pennant. A scarce 3/4-size example, this vintage banner is adorned with a "leatherhead" punter applique at left, the team name at center, and the famous "Brownie the Elf" mascot at right. The gold graphics are bold and full, with a modest number of cracks noted, and the brown felt field is clean. Minor erosion is evident on the point and the tassels, which remain securely attached. A 3/8" notch on the bottom edge limits the grade to (GD-VG), otherwise this fairly sturdy survivor of a long defunct league, presents much better.
