Description

DC made big news in the early 1990s that transcended the comic hobby to capture mainstream attention, when the venerable publisher killed Superman in a series of crossover issues. The "Death of Superman" occurred in the Superman Second Series issue #75, which was the best selling comic of 1992. Four follow-up issues were the comic industry's best sellers of 1993, with The Adventures of Superman #500, Action Comics #687, Superman #78, and Superman: The Man of Steel #22. Chief among these historic issues are Superman #75 and Adventures of Superman #500, which were released in several variations, including polybagged types. Speculation over these high profile comics was rampant, and here we have a significant stash of (328) books, which have been held in storage since the original period of publication. All are unread examples ranging in condition as (90% NM to NM-MT, 10% lesser). The lesser examples show signs of improper storage, in the form of curling, which should press out. Nearly half of the lot total are polybagged editions that remain sealed, and a generous portion of this hefty hoard reports as like-new. Introduced in 1938, Superman is the first super-hero of note, and his status as a world-wide icon keeps these, and all of his related comic books in strong demand.

Featured are:

Superman Second Series #75 "Death of Superman" black polybagged edition (X2);
