Among the most popular and sought-after of all baseball postcards are those produced by Chicago-based photographer J.D. McCarthy. Like his predecessors George Burke and George Brace, McCarthy had the advantage of a nearby stadium from both the American League (Comiskey Park) and the National League (Wrigley Field). He could take portraits of every player, and not only did he supply the pictures to Topps for baseball card sets and to franchises for team-issued press photos, but the players themselves (and fans) could also order postcard versions. This Phillies-centric collection averages EX condition and includes: S. Anderson, Luzinski (3), Rose (3), Carlton, Belinsky, White, Averill, H. Anderson, Baumholtz (2), Baldschun, Blaylock, Briggs, Bowman, Brandt, P. Brown (2), Buzhardt, Callison (3), Curry, Dalrymple (5), Demeter (2), Farrell (2), R. Gomez, Groat (3), Greengrass, Haddix (2), Hall, Herrera, Johnstone, A. Johnson, Kazanski, Landrum, Linz, Lock, Lopata (3), B. Miller, B. Morgan, Morehead, Moskus (2), Negray, Post, Ramos, Rogovin, Rojas, Simmons (2), Seminick, Walters, Wine (2).
